When asked about what inspired her to enter the spirits industry as a female founder, Gemma reflects on her journey over the past decade. “Being a woman made no difference to my decision to want to start a successful vodka brand” She elaborates that  “it wasn’t a factor that I was going to let deter me”. “I was ambitious, inspired by the ingredients and an old recipe, and I wanted to share it with the world.” Gemma encourages aspiring women entrepreneurs to be brave, aim high, and believe in themselves while surrounding themselves with supportive individuals who share their vision.

Gemma emphasises the value of diversity in the spirits industry “countless studies have demonstrated that having a diversity of thought, opinion and lived experience in a room is not only the right thing to do but it’s good for business.”
“Women bring unique perspectives and contributions to the table,” she notes. “Our company leverage’s these strengths to innovate and differentiate itself, fostering a collaborative and diverse team environment.” Because of this, we have found ourselves ahead of the trends, which has enabled us to position the brand authentically in spaces when talking about sustainability and the importance of seasonality.

With International Women’s Day 2024 focusing on the theme of ‘Inspire Inclusion,’ Gemma highlights its significance in her company’s branding, marketing, and overall business strategy. “Inclusivity is one of our core pillars,” she explains. “We strive to incorporate this ethos into every aspect of our business, from our marketing efforts to our commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion as part of our B Corp journey.”

Gemma shares personal anecdotes of championing inclusivity and equality within the spirits industry. “I promote inclusivity through all company levels and hold our partners to the same standards,” she says. “Mentorship, advocacy, and community involvement are essential in supporting the growth of women in the industry.”

Reflecting on the role of the spirits industry in uplifting women, particularly those from diverse backgrounds, Gemma elaborates on the importance of networking and community support. “More networks like Women of the Vine and Spirits provide platforms for collaboration and connection,” she suggests. “As a leading female founder, I am committed to uplifting and supporting other women in the industry.”
Gemma concludes by expressing her dedication to driving positive change within the spirits industry, empowering women, and fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment for all.
