At Gattertop Drinks Co, we are striving to measure and reduce our environmental footprint with sustainable business practices and processes.

Organic Orchard

We hold a Soil Association certified organic license for our orchards at Gattertop.

Environmental consideration is placed firmly at the heart of the business by working with the countryside, its seasons, ways and principles.

Organic methods involve using lower levels of pesticides, no manufactured herbicides or artificial fertilisers. Landscapes prosper as healthy soils are a major store of carbon, containing three times as much as the atmosphere and five times as much as forests. By managing and maintaining healthy habitats we support up to 50% more wildlife.

Sustainable production

We are environmentally responsible during the entire manufacturing process, which is all done by hand.  Once filtered, the delicious leftover damsons are currently used in jams and jellies, but we are exploring other upcycling opportunities with food and drink experts to develop other innovative products.

All processing of the Damson No.12 takes place on Gattertop, and all the botanicals for the Botanic No.7 are picked from Gattertop, ensuring minimum food miles.

Environmentally responsible sourcing

We source recyclable and sustainable materials, including glass bottles, natural corks, cardboard boxes and packaging.

Our labels and all marketing literature is made from recycled paper.

We are also committing to a plastic free policy that actively avoids (single-use) plastic.  For packaging shipments, we use recyclable bags, 100% recyclable wood wool and paper tape.

  • By the end of 2021, we intend to commit to all materials throughout all the processes of production to be 100% sustainable, this includes all shipping.
  • By the end of 2021, we aim to use 100% biodegradable shrink sleeves made from polylactic acid on all our products. This is a compostable material that complies to global standards. And we are keeping our eyes on the bigger cork producers, Diam and Vinventions, who are working on closures that use naturally-sourced binding agents, from beeswax to corn sugar.

Carbon Neutral

We produce Carbon Neutral products that are off-set through our partners. We are also launching an orchard initiative to reinvest in planting new trees and supporting relatable charitable causes from every bottle purchased. We are working alongside our partners to safeguard the landscape and the precious orchards which bear the fruit and botanicals we rely on for the future.

  • Around two thirds of Britain’s orchards have been lost since 1960
  • As a business, Gattertop Drinks Co aims to be a fully carbon neutral business by the end of 2021. We also plan to sign up to the UK’s Woodland Carbon guarantee which seeks to permanently remove CO2 from the atmosphere and therefore helping to combat climate change.
